Khone Phapheng Waterfall – the Niagara of South East Asia
I got the chance to visit Laos the other days and very fortunate to visit Khone Phapheng Waterfall. The journey to Khone Phapheng itself is like Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness where you have go further into the unknown.
To visit Khone Phapheng one has to go to the province of Champhasak in the south of Laos and from Pakse, the biggest city of this province, it takes about 2 hours further south into the wilderness of Laos.
Khone Phapheng is a very unique waterfall because it is actually in the middle of Mekong River and it is this waterfall that has made it impossible for ship to navigate from the mouth of Mekong River in the Pacific Ocean to the southern provinces of China.
For me the stunning beauty of Khone Phapheng is spurge of water coming out like a very very big jacuzzi hot tub. The visual impact is simply stunning with the flow of the water itself. This has caused it to be known as Niagara of South East Asia.
