Nishibama Beach Okinawa – Snorkeling Paradise of Japan
I just got back from a trip to Okinawa and my favourite spot during this trip was Nishibama beach on the island of Akajima. The journey from the main island of Okinawa takes to Akajima island about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Tomari Port with the ferry. From the port, this beach is about 20 minutes walk away and people can also rent bicycle to get there. The journey to get there was definitely worth it.
At Nishibama beach, people can rent an complete snorkelling set for only 1,000 yen. Before getting onto the beach, a local person would tell tourists that this place is actually a natural reserve and tourists can only snorkel in the designated area. Stepping on coral is of course forbidden and the lifeguards have extra loud speakers to warn tourists. This made Nishibama beach a place to go snorkel for many kinds of fishes without having to swim out far from the beach. Luckily, I bought and tried out a waterproof iPhone case. So I have manage to take some pictures of the fishes there.
I had an amazing time at this beach and definitely recommend it to people visiting Okinawa.
