Marunouchi Bon Festival 2014 – Tradition in the Heart of Modern Tokyo

The summer in Tokyo can be extremely hot but the summer is great for traditional cultural festivals. Everyday there is a festival somewhere in the city and I very much had the greatest time of my life today at the Marunochi Bon-Odori festival. An event such as this, reminded me why I love life in Japan so much. Where else can you get a traditional dance festival on one of the most fashionable and pristine street in the world? People came to the festival dressing in yukata, (summer kimono) and joined the dance among the stores of the biggest names in luxury like Tiffany’s and Comme des Garcon.  One can dance from sunset till late in the evening. It was also unnecessary to know the dance move since there were many experts there to lead the dance. Moreover,  the festival wasn’t too crowded and this made it even more fantastic. My friend has said that it is a festival for contemporary society and I very much agree to this statement.

The festival will finish tomorrow so definitely visit it if you have time.
