Yushimatenjin – the most beautiful shrine in Spring with its Plum blossom
Yushimatenjin is Tokyo’s most beautiful shrine during the plum blossom season. In Japan, plum blossom is one of the first signs of spring before its infamous cherry blossom season and Yushimatenjin is the best place to enjoy this seasonal bloom.
Situated close by Ueno Park and Okachimachi, Yushimatenjin is actually dedicated to the Shinto god of learning and I took the opportunity to write my wish on a wooden board called ema. I am expecting to graduate during the autumn of this year. Therefore on the ema, I simple wrote my wish as to be able to graduate this autumn and find a good job.
I pretty much fell in love with this shrine. Most of the trees are actually plum trees and this has caused the shrine to seem like it is floating among clouds of white and pink fluffy blossom. Plum flowers are literally everywhere from its Japanese garden to its grand Japanese feudal style buildings. Yushimatenjin is definitely a must visit before the flowers wither away.
