Doi Mae Salong in Chiang Rai – Thai Cherry Blossom

Doi Mae Salong is a mountaneous area close to the Burmese border in Chiangrai, the most northern province of Thailand. The area itself is famous for its tea plantation and the cherry blossom/sakura that blooms during the cool season. This is probably one of the few places in Thailand that one can witness the cherry blossom. Living in Japan, the viewing of the cherry blossom in Japan is very different from the experience in Thailand. In Tokyo, sakura trees would turn streets entirely pink like cotton candy but in Doi Mae Salong, these trees provide a picturesque contrast with the tropical climate of South East Asia.
