Hida-Furukawa – Canals & Carps

The town of Hida-Furukawa just a little north from Takayama in Gifu Prefecture is known for its canals and carps. About half a century ago, the people of the town used the canals for daily lives such as laundry. This caused the water to be very polluted. In order to solve this problem, the city decided to put carps into the water with the belief if there are carps in the water, the people will start taking care of the environment. This belief has come true. The water is now clean and the city has turned into a tourism hotspot.

Wouldn’t it be nice to just come with your lover and feed the carps together in this historic town?
