Takayama Gifu Prefecture

I was in the town of Takayama in Gifu Prefecture last weekend. It takes about 5 hours to drive from Tokyo to Takayama. Takayama is known for its preservation of old traditional wooden houses that are more likely to be older than a century. In the city centre, you can see these houses everywhere. It is possibly like walking back into time because Tokyo itself used to be covered with structures like these.

Too bad I didn’t bring my yukata with me or else I would love to get a photo of me in a yukata walking through one of these streets.

Another interesting thing about Takayama is its natural irrigation and sewage system. The natural spring from the mountains flows through this city and provide an abundance of fresh clean water.

It really like the roof of this shrine. It reminded me of a lotus leaf.
