Matsumoto Castle

I finally got to visit Matsumoto Castle in Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture. I have always wanted to visit this castle ever since I heard about it. In Japan, most castles were destroyed during the Meiji Restoration or World War II and there are only 3 castles left in the country that are still genuine and considered national treasures of Japan. One is Himeji castle in Hyogo Prefecture, another one is Kumamoto Castle in Kumamoto Prefecture and the third one is Matsumoto Castle.

Matsumoto Castle is the closest one to Tokyo. You can take train from Shinjuku and it should take around 3 hours. Matsumoto is known as the Black Crow because of its unique black exterior. People should definitely visit.
